At present, Sport England is a statutory consultee when planning applications impact playing fields, acting as a crucial safeguard in the planning system and providing vital oversight. However, the government is looking to remove them from this position as part of proposed planning reforms.
Playing fields are a lifeline for many communities, boosting both physical health and mental wellbeing, and providing somewhere for children and young people to practise sport and play together. This is true in Lindfield just as it is in communities right across the country.
The Fields In Trust charity, that has been protecting parks, playgrounds and open spaces for 100 years now has sent an open letter, signed by over 80 of the UK’s top sports stars including Jason Leonard, Sir Matt Pinsent, and Tessa Sanderson, reinforcing the need for green spaces in our communities.
Please take a look at the letter and the charities aims and goals under the patronage of HRH Prince of Wales.
