“Wilding at the Knepp: The Story So Far” by lead ecologist Matt Phelps. Once intensively farmed, the Knepp Estate is now devoted to a pioneering rewilding project. Matt is an avid birder, all-round naturalist, lead ecologist and science communicator.

“Wildlife of the Sussex Coastline” by Ian Rumley-Dawson. Ian is returning to describe some of the most picturesque areas to view animals, plants and natural coastal scenery in Sussex.

Lindfield Society Annual General Meeting. The AGM includes the presentation of the Lindfield Society Design and Preservation Awards followed by a wine and soft drink reception. Andy Bliss will present a short talk on “Medieval and WW2 archaeological developments near Lindfield”.

“Secret Sussex Resistance” – by talk by Stewart Angell. A founding member of the Sussex Military History Society, Stewart sheds light on the little known “Auxiliary Units” from WW2. Formed in 1940, these units were envisaged to be the British Resistance, countering a potential German invasion by employing guerilla warfare tactics in their localised areas.

“Brighton Before the Pavilion” by Geoffrey Mead. Today, Brighton is thought of as a thriving seaside resort originally brought to life with the construction of the Royal Pavilion, its centrepiece. Dr Mead takes us back to Brighton before the Royal Family stamped this modern image of leisure pursuits on our southern neighbour.

“The Policeman’s Lot” – by Neil Sadler. Neil spent 30 years as a police officer, beginning “on the beat” in Bognor Regis in the 1970s. This talk will include changes in police equipment and why pepper spray is not your friend.
